Cartoonist Jeff Koon has a long history of bringing water pipes to life with his signature whimsical drawings.
But his latest project, a water pipe called Beaker, is the first water pipe to feature a real-life cartoon character.
The Beaker was a one-of-a-kind creation made for the artist’s latest book, Water Pipes: The Best of Jeff Kons Cartoonists, which will be released on November 3, 2018.
The project features a series of illustrations by the artist depicting various characters, including a beaker of water and a water tank, both of which appear to be in the same location.
In one illustration, the Beaker’s head is seen hanging over a water fountain, while a water-powered device that appears to be a beamer is placed on the side of a nearby building.
“I thought this would be the perfect project to bring my characters to life, so I drew them on a piece of paper, and then taped them together,” Koons told Bleacher, explaining that he wanted the water pipes’ likenesses to be realistic.
The illustrations were inspired by various characters that Koons has drawn, including the famous “Mr. Koopa,” which appeared in the popular series of Donkey Kong cartoon, and the cartoonish characters from his book The Art of Jeff.
The Water Pics is Koons second book to feature cartoonist illustrations.
In 2015, he published a collection of short stories titled Jeff K. Koons: The Complete Stories.
“These stories are meant to be told in a comic book format,” he told Bleachers.
“So when you’re working on the Water Puts, you’re really making a book.”
Jeff Kooons book Water Pops: The Art and Science of Water Pumps, which is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, features the same illustrations as the previous book, but also features a lot of text and explanations.
He explains that his goal with the book was to help readers learn about the art of water pipes.
“This book is meant to help the reader understand how to make their own water pipes,” Koon said.
“But also to educate them on what happens when water is poured on them and what they need to do to make it last longer.
So I hope that readers get a good grasp of what they are actually making, and understand that if you are careful, you can make a very effective and durable water pipe.”
Beaker is the latest in a series by the comic book artist to bring water pipes and water-related art to life.
In 2013, he released a book titled Water Pools: A Visual History of Water, which included drawings and illustrations of various water pipes from around the world, as well as an introduction by the late Jim Henson.
In 2018, he began releasing Water Poses: Art and Design for Water Pikes, which he says will be a more comprehensive collection of water-themed artwork.
The next Water Pinks book, Beaker: Water Pushes and the Artist’s Journey to the Bottom of the Well, will be out on November 2, 2018, with illustrations by Jeff and artist James Staggs.
